Todas têm um alto índice de estudantes estrangeiros, vindos de mais de 150 países, ou seja, são verdadeiros caldeirões culturais. Além disso, têm instalações e equipamentos de ponta, muito investimento e incentivo para pesquisa, e uma sólida história que inclui descobertas e personalidades que fizeram a diferença no último século.

University of Toronto

Fundada em 1827, a Universidade de Toronto (UofT) é uma das mais antigas instituições de ensino superior do Canadá. É hoje um dos principais centros de pesquisa do mundo e já formou mais de 560 mil estudantes.

Por estar em uma cidade multicultural, atrai muitos estudantes do mundo todo. E o seu corpo de estudantes reflete isso. A UofT tem um total de 71.930 estudantes na graduação. Desses,17.403 (cerca de 24%) são internacionais, vindos de 157 países.

Os 5 países com mais estudantes na UofT são China, Índia, Estados Unidos, Coreia do Sul e Hong Kong.

Estes alunos se dividem em 3 campi: St. George (em Downtown), Mississauga (no Oeste) e Scarborough (no Leste). O principal é o de St. George, com 43.471 estudantes na graduação.

A mais bem ranqueada universidade do Canadá, a UofT é considerada a 18ª melhor universidade do mundo, segundo o ranking 2020 da Times Higher Education.

Historicamente, a Universidade de Toronto é uma instituição conhecida pela excelência em pesquisa. Já soma 10 vencedores de Prêmios Nobel, entre professores e ex-alunos, em diferentes áreas: Física, Economia, Química, Medicina e da Paz.

University of British Columbia

Fundada em 1908, a UBC é a mais antiga universidade da província de British Columbia. Hoje, segundo o ranking 2020 da Times Higher Education, ela é a 34ª melhor universidade do mundo.

Com 252 cursos disponíveis, a UBC tem dois campi: em Poin Grey (Vancouver) e em Kelowna (Okanagan Valley), que nasceu em 2005. Na graduação a UBC recebe hoje 53.872 estudantes, sendo 44.882 em Vancouver e 8.990 em Okanagan. Em Vancouver, 28,1% dos alunos são internacionais (15.405) e em Okanagan, são 18,3% (1.820).

Esses números fazem com que a UBC seja conhecida como uma das universidades mais internacionais das Américas. Entre alunos de graduação e de pós, há representantes de mais de 160 países.

McGill Unversity

A McGill University foi fundada em 1821, por carta real concedida pelo rei George IV. A universidade leva o nome de James McGill, um comerciante de Montreal que veio da Escócia cujo legado inspirou a criação da universidade. Hoje a McGill é a terceira instituição de ensino superior mais importante do Canadá e a 42ª no ranking das melhores universidades do mundo, de acordo com a Times Higher Education. Apesar de o campus principal ficar ao pé do Monte Rayal, em Montreal, província de Quebéc, onde a língua predominante é o francês, o idioma adotado no ensino é o inglês. Porém, é comum que professores e funcionários falem as duas línguas e trabalhos podem ser entregues na língua de preferência do aluno.

Cerca de 25% dos 40.000 estudantes da McGill University são internacionais, vindos de mais de 150 países.  Oito vencedores de Prêmio Nobel saíram da McGill, além de 3 primeiros-ministros, 3 astronautas, e 3 ganhadores do Prêmio Pulitzer.
