Há algumas possibilidades para os estudantes brasileiros que desejam estudar e trabalhar no país. Confira!

Sistema de ensino

Inicialmente é preciso entender o sistema educacional canadense, que é diferente do que estamos acostumados no Brasil.

Para cursos com menos de 6 meses de duração não é preciso ter o visto de estudante. Nesse caso, é possível contar somente com o visto de visitante, contudo, não há a permissão para trabalhar.

Para poder estudar e trabalhar no país o estudante deve escolher um curso em período integral, com duração de no mínimo 6 meses (não pode ser um programa de aprendizado de idiomas) e a instituição de ensino escolhida deve estar na lista de Designated Learning Institutions, ou seja, a escola precisa ter autorização do governo para oferecer cursos que exigem o visto de estudo (requisito obrigatório para os cursos com mais de 6 meses de duração).

Existem dois tipos de instituições que oferecem os programas: Colleges e Universities. Os Colleges oferecem cursos mais técnicos voltados para uma preparação o mercado de trabalho, com menor duração (em geral, de 6 meses a 2 anos) e não oferecem diploma de bacharel.

Já a University, oferece cursos de maior duração, como bacharelados, mestrados e doutorados, oferecendo diploma de graduação ao final dos, em média, 4 anos de curso. As universidades canadenses estão no ranking das melhores do mundo e são conhecidas como instituições de prestígio em todos os locais.

Em ambas as instituições (Colleges e Universities), as aulas, em geral, se iniciam em janeiro ou setembro, sendo que em algumas escolas ainda há a opção de ingresso no mês de maio.

Mercado de trabalho

Após ser aprovado no processo seletivo e ingressar em uma instituição de ensino o aluno deve solicitar uma Letter of Acceptance (LOA) — carta fornecida pela escola para os alunos que estão matriculados em um curso — para dar início ao processo do visto de estudos com permissão de trabalho.

Com o visto em mãos, os alunos brasileiros (tanto de Colleges, quanto de Universidades) podem trabalhar 20 horas semanais — os estudantes que têm o direito à permissão de trabalho devem respeitar rigorosamente o período máximo de trabalho semanal.

A única exceção é durante o período em que as instituições de ensino entram de férias e os alunos podem trabalhar até 40 horas por semana, enquanto as aulas não retornam.

Os estudantes internacionais que concluem o seu curso em uma instituição de ensino canadense credenciada pelo governo podem permanecer e trabalhar no país com o Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) — um visto de trabalho em tempo integral que tem validade de 1 a 3 anos.

Para obter a aprovação do PGWP é preciso solicitá-lo em até 90 dias após a conclusão dos estudos, ainda com o visto de estudante válido. Caso contrário, se perde o benefício e não há mais a possibilidade de requisitá-lo.

No Canadá, o estudante é responsável por buscar por um emprego nos programas de estudo e trabalho.

É comum encontrar emprego na área de serviços, hotelaria e atendimento ao público, e o salário-mínimo no país é por volta de 10,85 dólares canadenses por hora. Também é possível que o estudante realize estágios em sua área de estudo — o que possibilita que ele arrume um emprego após a formatura de maneira mais fácil.
